Liza began her conservation career in 2012 when she joined a Darwin project to increase capacity for environmental work on St Helena and undertook an Environmental Conservation NVQ. Since then she has worked as Invertebrate Education Officer and Invertebrate and Education Project Officer for successive invertebrate based Darwin projects. She is responsible for the rediscovery of the Basilewsky’s Cranefly and other bugs which was publicised in the UK by Buglife. She is heavily involved in invertebrate promotion and education across the island, including undertaking talks and lessons for school children, and has produced an education pack and loan box which is available as a teaching resource. Her photos of endemic invertebrates have been used numerous times, and many will be included in the new Invertebrate Field Guide currently being written. Most recently she has been involved with establishing a baseline survey of invertebrates for the ‘Securing the future of St Helena’s endemic invertebrates’ Darwin Plus project currently running on St Helena.
