Assessment Rationale:

This species is endemic to El Hierro, in the Canary islands. It is only known from 3 locations in a small area (6 x 2km) and is sensitive to the disturbance of the habitat due to goats and urbanization. Conservation actions would be protection of the area and regulation of grazing by goats. This species is therefore considered as Endangered (EN) B2ab(iii).

Habitat and Ecology

This species lives under stones in low vegetation.

Major Threat(s):

The area where the species is found is subject to impact by goats grazing and trampling and by expansion of the adjacent urban areas (Groh pers. comm. 2010).

Conservation Actions

Moliner Gomez et al. (2001) list the species as sensitive to the disturbance of the habitat due to goats and they recommend the protection of the habitat. Conservation actions would be protection of the area and regulation of grazing by goats.
